Michael Scott (Associate)
Private Client Team

As a solicitor who specialises in Wills, Trusts and Estates, I advise on a wide range of matters which can impact all families – regardless of the size of the family or the value of an estate. Almost everyone is understandably concerned that their life’s work – be it their family, their savings or their business – is looked after following their death. One of my roles is to ensure that their wishes are carried out.

I enjoy being able to approach an issue by analysing it critically and working with my clients to create a holistic solution that is right for them. Sometimes this involves deciphering complicated tax legislation and advising how clients can operate within the legal framework. Other times my role might be to present perspectives to a client’s problem that they might not have considered. No two clients are ever the same and, as a result, no working day is ever the same in my department. The variety keeps everything interesting and my work enjoyable. 

There are a lot of areas that go with being involved in Trusts & Estates, such as wills, lifetime tax planning, trust creation and administration, variation and administration of estates, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection applications.

I work with a broad spectrum of clients. Some of them are within and above the inheritance tax threshold, those in their second marriages, elderly clients, operating a business or about to retire from it, and farmers and owners of land and property.
